Ethan Frome by Edith WhartonMy review
rating: 4 of 5 stars
This book was good because it was an easy and fast read. Also, you learned in the very beginning that Ethan suffered some sort of major accident, but Wharton keeps you guessing and wondering until the end to figure out exactly what happend. You also learn at the very beginning of the book that he is still married to his wife, so I was in suspense the whole time at what he was going to do about his feeling for Mattie, his wife's cousin, who lived with them. Also at the VERY last of the book there was a huge surprise I was never expecting.
This is the first book of Edith Wharton's that I've read. I enjoyed her style of writing. It wasn't too detailed; yet, I grasped a good concept of the characters and the conflict in the book. This book has led me to want to read more from Wharton; especially The Age of Innocence, which won her the Pulitzer Prize in 1921.
This book helped me think about what kind of wife I am. I don't think I am any where near Zeena (Ethan's wife), but as I read the book, I was hoping that my husband was happy with me as his wife. Overall, it was a good read. But if you're looking for the happy ending or an ending with nice tying of the loose ends, this is not for you.
